Craig Watkinson was born and raised on the east coast. Aside from the lead role of "Father Time" in his 6th grade play (for which he was nominated for a Tony Award, losing to Jeremy Irons), he didn't begin his acting career until college. He attended the Bachelor of Fine Arts program at Mason Gross School of the Arts at Rutgers University, where he learned not to tawk like dis. He worked with a touring company that performed in Europe before moving to New York City.
There, he paid his dues by acting in several unspeakably awful Off-Broadway plays. Soon the plays got better, and he branched out into soap operas (including a recurring role on One Life to Live) and independent films. He later moved from Manhattan to Los Angeles so he could order nonfat milk with his Earl Gray tea without getting punched in the face. There he has worked in several films (including Judgment Night, Learning to Surf, and Undiscovered), television shows (including Criminal Minds, Big Love, and Without a Trace) and fast food commercials. "The Cure" marked his debut feature as a writer/director. It won INTERNATIONAL BEST DRAMATIC MOTION PICTURE and INTERNATIONAL BEST ACTOR in a DRAMATIC MOTION PICTURE for Craig at the "2003 Twisted Sinema Film Festival" in Toronto, Canada. It also won him BEST ACTOR - DIRECTOR'S CHOICE at the 2003 Hollywood Digital Film Festival and a filmmaker grant for at the 2003 Memphis Digital Arts Film Festival. While still acting sporadically, Craig returned to college to earn his BA in Education and a teaching credential. After spending seven years as a teacher of learning disabled children in Los Angeles, Craig Watkinson retired from education in 2013 to return to acting full time. |
