With influences in Gospel, R&B, rock and classical, Frankie Keane's imaginative and distinctive interpretation of music and song are what make her a singularly unique gift. A product of two very musical and artistic parents, Frankie started off both her singing and acting roots in Chicago. She is a multiple threat as singer/songwriter; composer; lyricist; instrumentalist (violin and piano); and accomplished stage/film actress. Since moving to New York in 2003, she has performed at legendary venues The Bitter End, Caf Wha?, The Groove, The Underground among many others. Frankie made her debut Off-Broadway in director David Tobin's acclaimed review, Pure Gospel America and toured with the musical If This Hat Could Talk directed by Tony Award winner George Faison. In Chicago, Frankie was chosen The Cotton Club's "Best Young Vocalist" and has been featured solo artist at numerous venues, including Buddy Guy's Legends, The House of Blues, Pump Room, Blues Chicago, Isaac Hayes' Place, The Apartment Lounge and many more. Frankie has recorded with Universal artist Malik Yusef appearing on his 2003 debut album The Great Chicago Fire as well as in its video along with Kanye West, Common, Twista, Ron-E-Ron and Marvelous 11. In the late 1990's, Frankie sang and co-produced alongside Grammy-winning artist R. Kelly on Rockland Records. As a soloist, Frankie has shared the stage with artists such as, Danny Boy (Death Row Records), Chant Savage (MCA), Isaac Hayes (honoring R. Kelly), Mighty Blue Kings, Youth Edition and David Josias (imi Records). She was opening act at Gospel Fest '99 and The Bernie Mac HBO Showcase. Her band opened for the legendary Koko Taylor and Dennis Miller at The House of Blues. She has also performed the National Anthem at several NFL and NBA games. In front of the camera and on the boards, Frankie has made her mark. She has appeared in several plays and films, including her featured role in the acclaimed Converging with Angels, named one of the best entries in the 2002 Montreal Film Festival. She has been sought after to compose and perform scores for multiple film projects. The Chicago Reader praised her singing in the 2003 premiere of the stage drama Valerie Loves Me as "gritty and golden." Currently co-producing upcoming Musical "Hereafter" with VP of Late Night programming for CBS-David Letterman, Vinnie Favale. Like any slow and steady ride along the pursuit of happiness of mind, body and soul, there have been many trying and character-building situations that have imparted Frankie with two distinct but equally powerful traits. She is a woman of deep conviction, willing to stand on her own to make her dream come true; and two, she rejects the notion of ever giving up. She has a gift that she desperately wants to share. And she does it every chance she gets: in clubs, theaters and in her church choir. WHAT THEY ARE SAYING "Frankie has a phenomenal musical spirit. She is a marvel, a singer with great flexibility. Her sound captivates you and you can't ever forget it. She possesses a natural and intriguing vocal combination of Aretha Franklin and Annie Lennox." -Dr. Lena McLin, world renowned Gospel composer and vocal coach "It is my experience that in life, people are separated into three categories: those that would be, those who will be, and those that are. Frankie is in a state of being. She is great because she chose to be, her gift has made room for her, and she works unceasingly to bring joy to others." -Malik Yusef (a.k.a. "The WordSmyth"), Universal recording artist "Avoiding categorization, Frankie is most at home celebrating soul, passion and God-fearing spirit; evident in her positive, sometimes witty, and always depthful lyrics. Her voice is smoky, soulful in the lowest ranges but in a moment of passionate agility she can reach for your jugular with fire-power, rarely heard since Haight-Ashbury met Joplin." -Robert Francavillo, Founder/President, imi Records |
