In over 40 years of bringing characters to life, classically trained actor/voice artist Mike McNerney has portrayed good guys, bad guys, sung like Elvis, and voiced several insects. When not in front of the camera, McNerney is an Assistant Director, having worked with notable directors like Mario Van Peebles, John Singleton, and Lesli Linka Glatter, and done on-set technique studies working with such luminaries as Taraji P. Henson, Morgan Freeman, and Ernest Borgnine.
Following his AA degree in Speech from Glendale College, McNerney earned his BA in Broadcasting at Arizona State University. He has studied Commercial Acting in seminars with Squire Fridell, as well as Musical Vocal Coaching with Michael Tausig, and gets regular technique tips from his opera singer wife, Donna Marie Covert. During the early days of the pandemic, McNerney entered Roger Corman's First and Last Quarantine Film Festival, creating Frayed, Not Afraid, a short film in which he portrayed all of the characters, wrote and performed all music, wrote, storyboarded, directed, shot, and edited the short entirely on an iPhone using only elements that were readily available and with no outside assistance. McNerney is an avid photographer, including astrophotography, and plays guitar for relaxation. He enjoys singing, songwriting, and camping and can sometimes be found singing while camping under the stars with his telescope pointed at Andromeda. While traditional dramatic and comedic roles are always enjoyed, McNerney looks forward to playing quirky roles, and, perhaps voicing a platypus or maybe a wily beast in the future. |
