Michael was born in Hawthorne, California, where he began his study of the martial arts in 1974. Michael trained and taught extensively at the Tai Mantis Kung-Fu Association in Los Angeles, CA under his primary instructor Sigung ("Grandmaster") Liang Kam Yuen, kung-fu master, author, and Technical Advisor/Fight Coordinator for the once-popular "Kung Fu" T.V. series in the 1970s. Michael was certified in 1986 as a Chief Instructor in the traditional Northern Shaolin Monastery kung-fu system, Seven-Star Praying Mantis and Tai Chi Praying Mantis kung-fu systems, the 18 Law Horn ("Shaolin Lohan") kung-fu system, Tai Chi Chuan, Hsing-I and Pa-Kua; in addition to Chi Kung, Iron Palm and Piercing Hand Techniques, and traditional Northern Shaolin weaponry. In 1993, Michael initiated a voluntary evaluation and was "re-certified" by Sigung Yuen. Later, he founded the Northern Shaolin/Praying Mantis Kung-Fu Association in 2004. In 2009, Michael permanently relocated to New Orleans, Louisiana. He's currently involved in stunt work and teaches kung-fu and Tai Chi in the city and surrounding areas. |
